We have now reopened and while we have been closed exciting things have been happening in our garden! We have just completed a beautiful rustic boardwalk through the ancient cassia fistula trees. The boisden (bayleaf wood) railings provide that rustic feel. At the top is a viewing platform and seat, perfect for enjoying a nice cup of tea or a drink while taking in the perfect view that encompasses Fort George, Port Louis Marina, Grand Anse Beach, Quarantine Point and Point Salines. The plants here are shampoo gingers, crotons, peace lillies, ferns, ornamentals and orchids attached to the tree trunks.
We are looking forward to a great season - see you soon!

FT - "Postcard from Grenada"
Hyde Park Tropical Garden merited a mention in the Financial Times. Fortunately in the travel section and not the latest financial debacle. Here is the link http://tiny.cc/mhodfw

Pereskia Bleo - Rose Cactus
Another rainy day as we come towards the end of another wet dry season. I'm not complaining mind you. I still have a vivid memory of the dreadful dry season of 2010. Hose pipe bans and recycling washing machine and bath water to try and keep plants alive. The Pereskia Bleo - Rose Cactus is in both fruit and flower. A cactus with leaves? Yes its true.
To stray from the garden for a moment. I stood on my balcony this evening and watched the mega yacht Katara, owned by the Emir of Qatar making its stately progress out of the harbour, brilliant blue lights at the stern and the whole waterline lit up by underwater lights. Grenada is not a stranger to super yachts since the Camper & Nicholson Port Louis Marina was opened, but mega yachts are a whole different kettle of fish. More like a very fancy cruise ship. Local news has reported that the Emir was having talks with the Government, so we can but hope that during the two days the yacht was here that he has managed to line up some projects for investment. We certainly need it. Now I have piqued your curiosity this is what a mega yacht looks like.

Grenada at Chelsea - 10th Gold Medal
Congratulations to Suzanne Gaywood and her team for the remarkable achievement of a 10th Gold Medal win for Grenada at the 2012 Chelsea Flower Show. To see the fantastic exhibit visit http://www.grenada-at-chelsea.org.uk/
Hyde Park Tropical Garden in its own small way, supports Grenada's Chelsea exhibit by being a sponsor and also supplying orchids(arachnids) and ferns from the garden. 70 blooms of orchids were sent up this year
The Gazebo in Hyde Park Tropical Garden also provided the inspiration for this year's Tropical Paradise exhibit
